Character Name: John Constantine
Character Age: 36
Canon: Constantine AU with Hellblazer lore added in
Canon Point: Season 4, episode one of Legends Of Tomorrow, after attempting to warn Sara Lance.
WARNINGS: Hellblazer is not a happy or easy to read comic. In turn, Constantine as a series is very dark. This app contains mentions of sexual assault, incest, child death, ritual self harm, but no details or descriptions of the acts themselves. Wiki links may contain triggering or upsetting content.
History/World: All important information can be found on the Arrowverse John Constantine Wiki. The wiki is very detailed and has his history and episode summaries in the biography section. It also has links to universe information in the side bar. The Hellblazer John Constantine Wiki also has information that benefits this AU.
AU Additions:
Little differs in this AU as far as the Constantine series goes, although if I had taken John from a further point in the Legends Of Tomorrow series there would have been stronger difference in the story change. I have filled in and added to John's story with information provided from the Hellblazer comic series. While I don't plan to list every example of Hellblazer lore that has been added to the AU, it would make the application insufferably long, I will list some of the more interesting and important additions. If wanted, I can provide more examples.
• John Constantine is bullied relentlessly by violent boy Kenny Nelson. He conspires with his sister for information on how Kenny killed his mother, and uses a faux séance to scare him, with the intent of stopping the episodes of bullying by scaring Kenny. This however leads to Kenny running out in front of a truck, and leaves him with grievous injuries. John is then indebted to Kenny's sister, who is at least less cruel of a bully.
• During one of his stays in Ravenscar, John Constantine found himself pulled out unexpectedly mid-treatment by Norman Cooper, a career criminal and the brother to dangerous and unpredictable Harry Cooper. Harry's son Ronnie had been killed, and John was pressured to revive him. This was not possible. Mentally distressed, under deep pressure, and terrified of the murderous criminal, John Constantine bound a horrific demon into the child's body so he could be free of them. Years later, the healed sigils allowed the demon to run free, and it forcibly impregnated Harry Cooper to create a new anti-Christ. John Constantine and Chas had no choice but to destroy the child.
• John's connection to Nergal started long before The Newcastle Crew had even formed. As a child, John Constantine was gifted a cigarette by Nergal who intended to corrupt his innocence by planting the seeds of corruption in this action. However, John was able to steal the entire pack for him. This was the start of his addiction, and eventually John Constantine develops lung cancer because of it. Later, he is able to trick The Triumvirate of Hell into healing him by selling his soul to each of them directly. Without them healing him, there would be a war over his soul. However, this was done in the most painful way possible, reminding John Constantine just how powerful and dangerous of enemies he'd made.
• The Resurrection Crusade plans to create a new Christ through the union of Zed and an angel. This forces Nergal makes a move again, forming his own Damnation Army in response. He heals John, who recently was severely injured in an accident after a breakdown, through infusions of his own blood. And threatens newborns in the hospital to force John to participate in preventing the Christ's birth. The demon blood taints John, and he passes that taint onto Zed when they're intimate, making her an unsuitable vessel for the Christ. The angel rejects her in response.
• John visits his friend Brendan Finn in hopes that the man will have a cure for his cancer. Instead, after enjoying ale made from holy water, he finds out that the other man is dying of liver failure. And hoped that John would have a cure for him. Brendan dies that night, and the First Of The Fallen comes to collect his soul. John however, manages to trick him and makes it so that Brendan's soul can go to heaven.
• After finding out that recently deceased friend Jerry O' Flynn was arranging for families to be killed by the Family Man, John hunts the man down. In retaliation, The Family Man kills Tommy Constantine, and John eventually kills the family man by shooting him.
Personality: This should be the meat of your application - thorough but not a thesis. Just give us a good idea of who the character is - what they’re like, what makes them tick, how they’ve changed if including CRAU history, how they differ from OU if an AU.
"Then why did you call me? Saving lives requires choices that you're not willing to make."
John Constantine is a walking disaster. He's a bundle of contradictions, trauma, bad decision, and good intentions all bound up together by pain and left to fend off what no one else wants to deal with. Being the person left to make all of the hard choices has left him incredibly bitter and defensive. But there's so much good beneath it all, a glorious heart that seems to beat for others more than it beats for itself. He's a difficult and complicated man, and maybe that's far more interesting than any magic he wields.
• Pain and trauma have formed a strong part of John Constantine's behavior and personality. His father was incredibly abusive, and this led to John missing out on important socialization as a child. As an adult, he's protective of children and absolutely mourns every soul he's failed to save. He doesn't trust anyone until there's a deep bond between them, and tries to go out of his way to chase off the people he gets close to in hopes of convincing them to leave him. He does this because of his dangerous lifestyle, in order to protect them, and in turn protect his own heart from more suffering. If there's no one left to get hurt, he can't mourn them. That's a large part of why he prefers to work alone.
• Poverty and his father's failure to be a good provider set the cogs into gear for John Constantine's life as a con-man and criminal. He was sharp and embittered from his youth, learning to steal and trick and swindle to get what wasn't provided and to protect himself. He lies easily and convincingly, uses magic and relics to cheat, and refuses to leave things up to chance. He also isn't above dirty work, magic takes money and he'll steal or take on less than tasteful work if it means funding his next spell or refilling his component items.
• John has an addictive personality. He drinks excessively, smokes like a chimney, has dabbled in party drugs on multiple occasions. This also applies to magic and spells, which he reaches for and chases with an obsession that is absolutely unhealthy. He also seems to be addicted to thrills, reaching for danger with excitement instead of a healthy fear.
• John's ego is an absolute contradiction. He prides himself on his nearly limitless talents, if he sets his mind to magic there is very little he couldn't learn if he wanted to. Papa Midnite calls Constantine a jackass of all trades, master of none. But the truth is, if he truly sets his mind to something, he can very well master it. And he prides himself on that, on being that capable of learning and that clever and that talented. And that ego can lead him to make absolutely stupid choices when an opportunity comes up spur of the moment.
However, he's also a bundle of depression, neurosis, and self-loathing in turn. He hates himself for his failures, questions his abilities, and hyper-focuses on when things don't turn out, regardless of how impossible the choices set before him were. He thinks everyone he knows is better off without him, and he blames himself for every death. This can lead him to drinking binges, escapism tactics, and hiding out. He'll leave mid-job if he thinks he's without hope. But he'll always return, guilt will drag him back to do what's right.
• Constantine is entirely charismatic, people get caught up in his presence, when he's happy and playful everyone adores him. He's charmingly roguish and cheeky and full of fun and good times. He's the kind of person that people would follow anywhere as long as he'll smile and let them be close. John's long term friends usually are deeply loyal to him, and they get the best of his fun loving side.
• Constantine in turn can be absolutely hateful, sneering and sharp tempered at a moments notice. He hates being played with, and if he feels like he can't trust the people he's with he might just go out of his way to be hurtful. He also holds grudges and well, although those can be dropped without thought as long as the right situation comes to play. He has a tendency to fight when drinking, and takes his pain out on others when he's bottled things up too long. He takes cynical to new levels, calling himself a realist while only expecting the worst of the world. And his humor tends to run sarcastic and even cruel when in a rough mood.
• John cares. He might not act like it, but he cares deeply. He might snarl at someone's behavior, or complain about a person's actions, but he doesn't take joy in seeing others suffer. He'll drop everything in a heartbeat to fly out to help someone who openly hates him. It doesn't matter if there's nothing in it for him, John helps because in his mind it's the right thing to do. The Newcastle incident left John with a deep need to make amends, even if he doesn't voice it as such. And every person he helps is something of an olive branch in his heart towards the people he's lost, trying to make things right with the world in their names bit by bit.
Items: Remember, characters are brought only with what they’re wearing and what they carry physically on their person. Small weapons, wallets, trinkets in their pockets - these are all fine. Large weapons, luggage, pets are not.
• Six of Diamonds magic card
• Business cards
• Lighter
• Small amounts of various components, including holy water, grave earth, salt, dried herbs, and rune stones.
• A very sharp hunting knife.
Powers/skills: If your character has any skills worth noting or special powers, please detail them here. Remember that all powers must be included in the application, or they will not be allowed in game.

Honestly, just link something. A meme thread, PSL in a musebox, another game thread, something from the TDM - just give us an idea of how you play this character. You’re welcome to write a standard sample, but please love yourself and make this part easy. Samples must be from the past 12 months and demonstrate how you intend to play this character - so no crack memes or different versions from the one in the rest of the app.
